Carlos Orlando Ruiz graduated from a Ripon College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Art in Art and Theatre, later enlisting in the United States Army Reserve and using his benefits toward a degree in Secondary Education. He also earned a Master of Art Education at SAIC, graduating with a dual degree.

Sociopoiesis posits that urban spaces must be reshaped to enhance social patterns and create places where people can interact freely, integrating public space with the built environment. Here, social experience shapes architectural form, pulling the individual through layers of space to promote a conscious understanding of their environment.
