An Na Kim was born in South Korea in 1984 and moved to the United States in 2002. Her practice combines childhood imagery with an interest in opening honest dialogue. The playful quality of her work stems from its thematic origins - a mode of communication she hopes to maintain, even when addressing complex personal issues.
My Interpretation uses body casts and a vibrant palette to explore the artist’s relationship to weight, body and food. As a child, dressed in dark colors to hide her size, she began to fixate on the color pink as not an imposed ideal of femininity but rather a mode of self-acceptance and personal expression.
